Seasonal Schedule

Are you looking for a speaker for your garden club or professional organization? I love talking gardening — send me an e-mail: marty@martywingate.com.

Sept. 16 - You will find me attending the Miller lecture, a free event that brings out all the gardeners around. Hope to see you there.

Sept. 17 - I'll be shopping at the Northwest Horticultural Society's fall plant sale.

Sept. 19 - Bring It Home is the topic for my talk at the Northwest Perennial Alliance's annual meeting. Let's talk garden travel.

Sept. 22 - Join Bob Lilly and me at the Washington Park Arboretum's Graham Visitors Center as we talk about bulbs - our favorites, how to plant, good bulb companions. All to get ready for the Arboretum Foundation's bulb sale on Oct. 3 and 4.

Oct. 19 - Small gardens are a big topic. This evening, I'll be teaching a class at the Center for Urban Horticulture, so sign up and bring photos and drawings of your garden so we can problem-solve together.

Sally Field – Gardener and Actress

I had great fun interviewing Sally Field about her love of gardening (the article appeared in the P-I Feb. 14; read it here), and if that wasn’t enough, I got to appear on stage with her at the Northwest Flower & Garden Show, Feb. 23, where we talked about Gardening for Good Health.

Sally gardens in the Malibu hills of Southern California, a much tougher place than Seattle, but we share some of the same fondness for plants, such as Ceanothus and California poppies. I passed along a book recommendation (Designing With Succulents, Debra Lee Baldwin, Timber Press, 2007) and the name of a great mail-order nursery — Annie’s Annuals.
